ABOUT YOGA THERAPY

WHAT IS YOGA THERAPY?

Yoga therapy is the therapeutic application of the tools and practices of yoga to help address specific needs and conditions.

It is customised to your specific goals, and your practice may include movement, breathwork, meditation, gratitude, diet and lifestyle advice, depending on what you need, what you can commit to and what you enjoy and resonate with.

HOW IS YOGA THERAPY DIFFERENT FROM A
YOGA CLASS?

A yoga class is typically a group session led by a yoga teacher which follows a sequence of poses and breathing exercises designed for a person or group.

In yoga therapy, the focus is on using yoga as a therapeutic tool to support healing and well-being. It is a one-on-one, personalised session with a certified yoga therapist. The practice is customised to address an individual's specific physical, mental, and emotional needs or health concerns. The therapist develops a tailored plan using a variety of yoga techniques to help the client achieve their unique goals.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

A Yoga Therapy session kicks off with understanding you, your needs and goals and may include a movement assessment. The next step is to work together to create a practice that fits you and helps you move forward.

All great practices need love and attention. That's why we also assess your practice at regular intervals and modify it as you progress.

HOW DOES YOGA THERAPY SUPPORT MEDICAL CONDITIONS LIKE CANCER?

Yoga therapy is a gentle, one‑to‑one way of using yoga to support people experiencing complex medical conditions through treatment, recovery and life after a diagnosis.

It adapts movement, breathwork, relaxation and meditation to a client's specific medical situation, and can help with managing both the symptoms of the condition and the side effects of treatment – including fatigue, sleep difficulties, pain, anxiety and feeling overwhelmed.

HOW MANY SESSIONS DO I NEED?

Ideally, at least 3 sessions. An initial assessment, and a couple of follow-ups to see if your practice needs any tweaks or modifications.

Many clients choose to schedule regular, short follow-ups once every 2-3 months.
